Active RFID tags can only be read if there is sufficient power to broadcast their identification information; as such tags will stop transmitting after about 24 hours due to low voltage.

 

Passive RFID Tags:

Passive RFID Tags for Livestock Management can be of three types: VHF, UHF, and LF. Passive tags are usually battery-powered with low power consumption that enables them to operate within a certain distance of the reader device without requiring any other energy source such as an induction loop or external antenna. The range varies depending on the tag's frequency band but generally passive tags work at ranges between 0 and 100 meters (0 and 328 feet).
