When a storm approaches, the streamer emission conductor begins to emit small sparks (or ‘streamers’) from its tip. These streamers will eventually connect with the leaders from the thundercloud, allowing the lightning to flow down the conductor and safely into the ground. Streamer emission lightning conductors are often used in areas where there is a high risk of lightning strikes, such as near airports or tall buildings.
