The Global Diaphragms Seals Market size is expected to reach a value of USD 3.78 billion by the end of 2028, growing steadily at a CAGR of 3.5% from 2021-2028. Factors such as rising adoption for precision parts and sensor application in low-pressure applications are driving growth across regions, while increasing demand for high-pressure diaphragm seals in the industrial sectors may lead to higher revenue generation opportunities over the forecast period.
Diaphragm seals are a type of mechanical seal. They have only two major components, the sealing element and an elastomeric diaphragm that forms a barrier between it and the process fluid or gas space on one side of the seal while creating a positive pressure against it from the other. The contact surface is usually metal to metal with either a PTFE liner for low-pressure applications or stainless steel for high-pressure applications. Diaphragms may also be used in conjunction with packing glands as well.
On the basis of Types, the market is segmented into Low-Pressure Diaphragm Seal, High-Pressure Diaphragm Seal.
Low-pressure diaphragm seals are designed with a thin and flexible rubber material that has an internal spring to create pressure. The sealing edge of the low-pressure seal is usually made out of metal or plastic, which prevents leakage from occurring when in operation. Low-pressurized seals use a sliding motion to contain fluid pressure during operation.
High-Pressure Diaphragm Seal is a sealing device that has high pressure, and the inner diameter of it can be less than 0.06 inches (15mm). High-Pressure Diaphragm Seals are used in applications where the pressure is over 50 PSI. They can be made of metal, plastic, and rubber among others. As a response to increasing demand for these products due to their high-performance levels when it comes to sealing out gas leaks with low permeability values, they have been on an upward trend as far as market growth goes.
On the basis of Application, the market is segmented into Sensor, Pressure Gauge, Precision Parts, and Other.
Diaphragms Seals are primarily used in the automotive industry for their usage as sensors. The diaphragm is composed of a thin flexible membrane that moves up and down under pressure, usually with an integral spring connecting it to a mechanical connection that provides movement on one side. This type of seal can be found in many places within the vehicle such as Braking systems, Accelerator pedal position sensor or electronic throttle control (ETC), Air intake temperature sensor, Fuel level gauge, and Coolant temp regulator sensor.
Diaphragms in pressure gauges are used to measure the low-pressure downstream side of a high-pressure pump. They act as flexible diaphragm valves for measuring and controlling pressures that are below atmospheric levels. When a vacuum is created, an internal spring forces the diaphragm down, pushing oil past it into the gauge chamber where it pushes against one plunger connected to a long connecting rod with a mechanical dial or digital readout showing pressure on its opposite end. The job of these components is to push up this piston so that they can be measured using specially designed instruments such as manometers which use mercury or water as their mediums.
Diaphragms Seals are used in precision parts. Precision is a measure of the degree to which an instrument's readings and measurements agree with reality, or that within the limits set by their design they can be relied on to produce reproducible results. The higher the precision of any device, including diaphragm seals, means better quality control during production stages as well as increased accuracy for end-use customers.
On the basis of Region, the market is segmented into North America, Latin America, Europe, Asia Pacific, and the Middle East & Africa. In the North American region, U.S. is an emerging market for diaphragms seals in the high-pressure application segment owing to technological advancements in the automobile industry and its pressure sealing requirements due to increased fuel efficiency standards by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
