It can also be used to form non-metallic materials, for example, waxes and polyester resins.

Column Type:

A column-type compression moulding machine has a cylindrical or rectangular metal frame onto which the lower die is attached. The upper die and its associated ram are fixed to this frame so that they extend horizontally out from it, perpendicular to the axis of rotation of the cylinder on which it operates.

Column-type compressors use overhead cranes for loading and unloading workpieces. They have a relatively high speed as compared with other types of machines but require large floor space because their dies descend below ground level when in operation.

 

Flat Type:

A flat-type compression moulding machine is a version of the process which has been adapted for use in plastics, such as PVC and styrene. The material to be processed is heated up at one end and compressed between two dies on either side. Flat-type compression machines are designed specifically for processing thin sheets of plastic materials that require only limited thickness modification or where there’s no need to form part-to-part features.
