The device works by providing a means of grasping tissue while simultaneously being able to introduce an osteotome into the bone during surgery which makes it possible to remove small pieces of tissue or fragments from the inside wall of joints without damaging surrounding healthy tissue. It also has electrocautery capability that provides internal hemostasis.
Urology Endoscopy:
Surgical snare in urology endoscopy is used when removing stones from the bladder, and for extracting polyps. Disposable devices are often preferred due to hygiene considerations. The Surgi-Lock Ureteral Access Set (trade name) includes a long wire with two loops at one end which act as retrieval shears and graspers that can be passed through an incision into the urinary tract to remove obstructions such as kidney stones or other foreign bodies. This device provides both grasping capability which allows it to extract small fragments of tissue along with hemostasis capabilities using electrocautery. A reusable set does not have these additional features but offers cost savings over disposable sets because they do not need replacement after each procedure.
