A surgical snare is a long, thin piece of wire that's inserted through the vagina during an endoscopic procedure. The wires are designed to stay open with a double loop on each side and can be closed around tissue using forceps so it can be pulled out. Surgical snares are often used in minimally invasive procedures such as gynecology or urology surgery when there isn't enough space for traditional instruments.

Disposable:

The disposable surgical snare is a disposable piece of equipment that can be used many times. Usually, the wire material and handle are both made from plastic; therefore, they’re recyclable after being worn out or if it doesn't need to be reused any further.

 

Reusable:

The reusable surgical snare is usually made from stainless steel, which means that it can be used many times without wearing it out.

GI Endoscopy:

The usage of the surgical snare in GI endoscopy is on the rise. The disposable type, with its low cost and ease of use, has gained popularity among gastroenterologists. The reusable type, on the other hand, has been popular for a long time and is now gaining more popularity among practitioners.

 

Laparoscopy:

Laparoscopy is a surgical technique that uses small incisions, or ports to create access in the body and involves inserting special instruments into these openings. The procedure can be used for many different kinds of surgeries including gynecology, urology, gastroenterology, cardiology, and head & neck surgery; as well as other procedures like biopsies (removal of tissue samples) and lymph node dissection. In this process, there are two types of snare available: one that is disposable with lower cost but less ease-of-use than the reusable type.

 

Gynecology/Obstetrics Endoscopy:

Surgical snare in gynecology/obstetrics endoscopy is used to grasp, cut or coagulate tissue during gynecologic and obstetric procedures. The disposable type has a lower cost but less ease of use than the reusable type; while the reusable type offers greater durability with a more expensive price tag. Some of these devices work by using gentle suction to hold tissues or can be electrically heated for use on blood vessels.

 

Arthroscopy:

Surgical snare in arthroscopy is used to hold tissues for removal of foreign bodies, irrigation, and lavage. Some devices such as the Surgi-Lock Arthroscope Tool Kit with Introducer Osteotomes (trade name) are designed specifically for arthroscopic procedures. The device works by providing a means of grasping tissue while simultaneously being able to introduce an osteotome into the bone during surgery which makes it possible to remove small pieces of tissue or fragments from the inside wall of joints without damaging surrounding healthy tissue. It also has electrocautery capability that provides internal hemostasis.

 

Urology Endoscopy:

Surgical snare in urology endoscopy is used when removing stones from the bladder, and for extracting polyps. Disposable devices are often preferred due to hygiene considerations. The Surgi-Lock Ureteral Access Set (trade name) includes a long wire with two loops at one end which act as retrieval shears and graspers that can be passed through an incision into the urinary tract to remove obstructions such as kidney stones or other foreign bodies. This device provides both grasping capability which allows it to extract small fragments of tissue along with hemostasis capabilities using electrocautery. A reusable set does not have these additional features but offers cost savings over disposable sets because they do not need replacement after each procedure.
