Solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC), a type cell that uses solid ceramic electrolyte, can be powered by natural gas, renewable biogas or hydrogen. SOFC is capable of operating at temperatures up to 800oC. It can also operate at higher temperatures, such as 1,000degC. Market growth is being driven by increasing awareness of alternative energy sources. Global warming is a major problem.
