The HDPE Blow Molding and Injection Molding Containers Market size are expected to grow from USD 3.68 billion in 2017 to USD 5.44 billion by 2028, at a CAGR of 6.5% during the forecast period (2021 - 2028). The growth of this market can be attributed to factors such as growing demand for plastic packaging containers in the Asia Pacific region and emerging economies with high disposable incomes coupled with rapid urbanization across developing regions, increasing use of bio-plastics due to environmental concerns, and continuous innovation in the field leading to product differentiation among competitors.
Blow molding is a manufacturing process that uses gas pressure to blow hot air into the cavity of a semi-finished liquid plastic product and form it as desired. Injection molds use cold injection, extrusion, or compression methods to produce precision molded parts from the molten polymer in less time than it takes for any other material type.
On the basis of Type, the market is segmented into Blow Molding and Injection Molding. Blow molding dominates with an approximate share of 80% during the 2016-2020 period followed by injection molding which takes about 20% shares. Thereafter, blow moldings will dominate till 2021 due to the high demand for pharmaceuticals packaging applications from the North American region. While on the other hand, injection molds will grow steadily as it offers a better price point compared to that of blow-molded containers.
Blow molding is a process of forming plastic or other materials by blowing air into open-ended heated hollow metal molds that shape the material. Plastic materials are heated and expanded into the desired mold to produce plastic bottles, jars, or containers of various shapes using an injection machine called 'injection blow molder', which uses air pressure as its primary power source in order to heat up and then expand liquid resin inside a closed container before it is injected under high pressure into the cavity of the shaped die. The result is a hollow article that has been molded from molten thermoplastic material. Blow-molded items can be made entirely out of one type of plastics but can also include mixed plastics such as coextruded tubing for refrigerant lines on automobiles (i.e., A/C).
The most common types are Injection Molded Plastic Containers - A molded thermoplastic resin container made from an injection molding machine, a special kind of machine press that uses reciprocating action in order to push hot polymer under high pressure into specially shaped cavities called 'dies'. The dies can be either symmetrical or asymmetrical for producing different shapes like bottles, jars, containers, or other products with a similar shape.
Injection molding is a manufacturing process for producing parts by injecting material into a hollow plastic part that has been heated until it becomes liquid. In this process, the operator starts up an injection machine and places the desired quantity of raw materials into its hopper with one hand while holding onto a handle which gradually moves downward to create space in order to fill any voids caused by air bubbles or spaces from where they were poured. The operator then presses buttons on the controller board to signal when more material needs to be added as well as how much pressure should be applied before removing their hands from both handles at once in order not to interfere with production time.
Once finished creating the said product, the retaining piece will retract back outwards resulting in decreased pressure on the material being injected which will allow for an escape route to be created for any air bubbles that are still present. To maintain a consistent ratio of ingredients, operators must ensure that they use one or more gauges and scales as well as measuring cups in order to measure their raw materials before pouring them into the hopper.
On the basis of Application, the market is segmented into Food & Beverages, Pharmaceuticals, Personal Care & Cosmetics, Health Care chemicals & Petrochemicals; and Others.
On the basis of Region, the market is segmented into North America, Latin America, Europe, Asia Pacific, and Middle East & Africa (MEA). North American market has been dominating this industry for many years with an estimated share of more than 40% during the 2016-2020 period as it would continue its dominance through 2021 due to high demands on pharmaceutical packaging application in the region which will provide continuous opportunities for growth in near future. Latin America follows closely behind with 30% shares followed by MEA at 25%. The European market estimated at 20% and the Asia Pacific is estimated to be around 15%.
