Fixed extraction arms can either be ceiling mounted (ceiling-mount) or wall-mounted (wall-mounted). These fixed types may also include benchtops that are easily moveable on wheels. A stationary benchtop with no arm is typically not classified as a true "fixed" type because it cannot remove fumes like the others listed above. They often have adjustable speeds and power settings depending on what material they will handle best without creating sparks or additional debris when extracting fumes at full speed.
Wall-Mounted
Wall-mounted type extraction arms are devices that can be installed on a wall to filter air. The ducts of these machines are usually placed about three feet from the floor and they often remain in operation for 12 hours or more at one time, 24 hours per day during peak periods. This is because their filters require replacement periodically with most manufacturers recommending an interval of two weeks or so between replacements. Wall-mounted extractors work best when they’re used indoors although some models may also have outdoor capabilities as well.
Ceiling-Mountable
Ceiling-mountable extraction arms are typically used for extracting fumes. These types of vents, which are mounted directly to the ceiling in a downward position with an integrated exhaust fan at their base that pushes air out through a tube or other device, can be a single unit (i.e., one vent) or multiple units operated by remote control from anywhere on the shop floor; these multiunit systems allow users to fine-tune airflow and noise levels as needed without moving around the manufacturing floor.

The application of extraction arms in welding fume extractors is to support the welder’s work. Dust Extractors
The application of extraction arms in dust extractors is to remove harmful dust particles from the air. The process captures and removes large amounts of airborne particulates, including those caused by welding fume and sawdust as well as other types.
Smoke Extractor
The application of extraction arms in smoke extractors is ventilation. Smoke extractor fans create a volume of higher-pressure air, which forces the smoke and other particles into an enclosed cabinet with a particle filter inside it. The extracted clean air exits from the fanned system through ducts that are usually mounted on walls or installed as ceiling fixtures. Extracting any residual vapor content would require using vacuum hoods to remove heat and moisture from the environment.
