The Global Engineered Wood Products Market size is projected to grow at a CAGR of 3.6% during the forecast period from 2021-2028. The rising demand for sustainable construction materials owing to the threats of climate change and environmental degradation, coupled with the increasing adoption rate of engineered wood products in various end-use industries such as schools, public buildings, large warehouse complexes, hotels, etc., will drive this market over the next decade.
Engineered Wood Products are used in various construction applications such as outdoor decks, structural members (e.g., I-beams, LVL), and wall panels. They are also widely adopted for interior purposes like furniture components or home furnishings. Engineered wood is the result of combining two different types of raw materials into a composite material that has better strength properties than either component alone. Wood-plastic composites provide high stiffness to engineered wood while adding some degree of elasticity from polymers; they can be used as an alternative to steel where cost considerations dictate their use, notably in long spans with limited tensile loads and service conditions restricting corrosion exposure.
On the basis of Type, the market is segmented into LVL, Structural Wood I-beams, Glued Laminated Timber (Glulam), Others.
LVL is an acronym for Laminated Veneer Lumber. LVL provides the same structural strength as a solid wood beam or column in a quarter of the weight because it's cross-laminated from three layers of veneers. The product is processed to be dimensionally stable and resistant to shrinkage on exposure to moisture due to its lamination process, which helps minimize warping with changes in atmospheric humidity generally found outdoors where there are drastic changes between seasons.
Structural Wood I-beams are made from solid wood and the main difference is that they lack a central core. Structural Wood beams can be used for structural purposes as columns, but also in floors or roofs because of their greater strength than LVL.
Glued Laminated Timber (glulam) products are made from planks of wood and they're glued together to form a product. Glue is applied between the layers of lumber which causes them to become bonded as one piece with increased strength over solid boards alone. Gluing also prevents creep in the material, meaning that it remains dimensionally stable even under heavy loads or changes in atmospheric humidity levels within its service range.
On the basis of Application, the market is segmented into Schools, Public Buildings, Large Warehouse Complexes, Hotels. Schools have the highest market share in this industry owing to rapid urbanization coupled with insufficient resources like water supply that needs huge investment on infrastructural projects including construction sector investments leading to increased demand for new constructions.
On the basis of Region, the market is segmented into North America, Latin America, Europe, Asia Pacific, and Middle East & Africa. The market is expected to dominate in the global market with a major share because it brings many opportunities for Engineered Wood Products industries and high demand from various applications such as schools or public buildings.
The Asia Pacific is anticipated to grow at the fastest rate during the forecast period due to the increasing population base and industrialization across India and China. Growing need from infrastructure development will also increase growth prospects in this region which are primarily driven by rapid urbanization coupled with insufficient resources like water supply that needs huge investment on infrastructural projects including construction sector investments. The Middle East & African countries have large scope for improvement where economies lack sufficient funds needed for new constructions. Globally, the major driver for growth in this industry is increasing demand from residential and commercial construction sectors.
