Chemical Absorption
Chemical absorption desiccants are a type of desiccant that relies on chemicals to adsorb and remove moisture. The process is generally slow but also removes water molecules from the air or other fluids through chemical reactions. These substances will release stored energy in order to react with the water molecule they’ve absorbed. Chemical absorption can be used for removing volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and pesticide residues left behind by some pesticides during processing because it is thought these contaminants may form harmful gases if not removed. Chemicals such as sulfuric acid, nitric acid, hydrochloric acid, phosphoric acid, and calcium chloride are most commonly used for absorption desiccants.
