TPS is prepared from starch. It flows at elevated temperatures and pressures. Biofilms made from starch and polylactic acid (PLA), will experience high growth with a CAGR at 7.6% between 2016-2024. Producing a mulching film that is truly biodegradable will reduce the disposal and labor costs of agricultural producers. The PLA/starch polymeric mix is made up of 99% bio-based materials. It is expected to replace petroleum-derived Polyethylene films (PE) over the forecast period.
