The double-Balanced Shaft Gear type of automotive air brake is fitted on the rear wheels and provides efficient braking by means of a complex system. They use two sets of gears to transfer the force from the engine or motor (driven) to the axle, thus generating power for brakes in all four tires simultaneously. The input shaft is connected directly with one gear which rotates in a special way that converts rotation into linear movement; this moves push rods attached to pistons controlling pressure valves, thereby regulating airflow amount as well as reducing noise levels.

 

 

Single Balance Shaft Gear:

The single balance shaft gear type of automotive air brake is a hydraulic device that works to decelerate a vehicle. It typically comprises two pressure chambers, one for the driver and passenger side brakes and another for the trailer. These are connected by a long cylinder with a connecting rod running through it on its axis at the center. The pistons inside these chambers work in concert to apply greater force than either piston could alone, providing more power when needed but only using half as much oil per application or stroke because each chamber operates independently from the other even though they share a common input source (brake pedal). To make use of this system, pressure must be applied separately to both sections of fluid which would ordinarily not require any effort since they are under the same system of pressure. A small valve, called a "balance chamber", controls this by diverting fluid from one side to the other when necessary.
