Global Tire Reinforcement Market by Type (Steel, Polyester, Rayon, Nylon), By Application (Tire Cord Fabric, Tire Bead Wire) and Region (North America, Latin America, Europe, Asia Pacific and Middle East & Africa), Forecast To 2028
The global tire reinforcement market is expected to reach USD 1.2 billion by 2028. The market is projected to grow at a CAGR of over 8% from 2018 to 2028 due to the rising demand for passenger and commercial tires across the globe. Steel and polyester are major segments of this market that are anticipated to account for nearly 50% share in terms of volume by 2020.
Tire reinforcement is the process of making tires stronger to withstand more pressure and heat. Reinforcing materials are usually composites or plastics, which can be woven together with other fibers that help strengthen them. Tire cord fabric uses steel cables for "lacing" that runs along the length of a tire's body from bead to bead. The cords provide stability and support while also functioning as an additional layer in case the inner liner fails. Tire bead wire is another reinforcing material that attaches the beads to the tire body and again, also functions as an additional layer in case of puncture. Tire reinforcement has been used for a long time now since most people usually don’t know when they will need it until their tires are already damaged or worn out.
On the basis of type, the global tire reinforcement market is segmented into steel, polyester, rayon, nylon.
Steel
Steel tire reinforcement is the oldest form of tire reinforcement. Steel has been used for a long time now since most people usually don’t know when they will need it until their tires are already damaged or worn out. Steel can be seen as an additional layer in case the inner liner fails and also functions as stability and support to your tire. Steel is usually the cheapest type of tire reinforcement and also provides a low-cost way to extend your tires’ life or just repairing them when they are punctured.
Polyester
Polyester is the best tire reinforcement material because it can be manufactured in a variety of thicknesses and densities. It also provides excellent durability with its resistance to heat, chemicals, ultraviolet (UV) light, and other physical forces that could cause damage or degradation. And when combined with steel cords for "lacing" along the length of the tire's body from bead to bead, polyester offers improved stability compared to nylon without an increased weight penalty.
Polyester has the most "give" out of all these types of material because its fibers are quite long relative to other fiber materials and have low elasticity. It can be used either plied together with another fiber such as rayon where they would add up their strengths or by itself for tires designed specifically for use on off-road vehicles or bikes where wheel skidding over rough terrain might otherwise cause damage. Polyester's biggest disadvantage is that it cannot withstand.
Rayon
Rayon is another type of fiber used as a reinforcing material that attaches the beads on tires but mainly functions as an additional layer in case the inner liner fails. Tire ribbon wire attachment does not have good tensile strength property so manufacturers don’t use this kind of tire reinforcement.
In order of density, Rayon is less dense than nylon and steel but more so than polyester or cotton - which means that it will not make a tire as heavy as steel reinforcement does but also provides strength in tension comparable to nylon reinforcements.
Nylon
Nylon tire reinforcement is a woven material that has been plied or glued together to form a cord. In its simplest state, nylon tire reinforcement can be made by twisting threads of nylon fiber into strands and then joining these with glue. Some people refer to the product as `nylong` or just `nylon` for short but this should not be confused with other types of nylons such as Nylon 66 or Nylon 69 which are better suited for many applications than tire reinforcements. The most common type used in tires is usually referred to as Type 12 thread count (12pc/in) reinforcing fabric because it consists of bundles that measure 0.013 inches across each bundle - this equates to 12 threads per inch.
Nylon tire reinforcement can be plied together with other fibers to create a fabric that is more durable and has better strength than when it is used on its own. It will also add around 15% to the weight of the tire when incorporated into the construction process.
Nylon tire reinforcements are easy to sew but need not be sewn all along their lengths, only where they cross or touch each other so long as care is taken in these areas since this could lead to unraveling at some point - for example, if nylon was stitched all around the outside edge of a tube then there would eventually come a time where one thread might snap, allowing two others next to it (which were already under tension) to pull apart.
On the basis of application, the global tire reinforcement market is segmented into tired cord fabric or tire bead wire.
Tire Cord Fabric
Tire cord fabric is a type of tire reinforcement material that takes the form of two woven layers. It has an advantage over other materials as it does not absorb water and can be used in different climates for varying needs, such as Europe’s cold winters or Asia’s hot summers.
Tire Bead Wire
Tire reinforcement in the tired bead wire is used to provide strength and protection. Tire reinforcements are often woven into the fabric of a tire cord or wrapped around its outside surface as wire, but may also be applied in other ways such as by folding them over from one side of an inner tube onto another to create an extra layer of rubber for protection.
On the basis of region, the global tire reinforcement market is segmented into North America, Latin America, Europe, and the Asia Pacific with a forecast from 2018 to 2028.
In North America, the tire reinforcement market is dominated by steel. Polyester and rayon are also being used to a certain extent though nylon has not been adopted so far. The demand for tire reinforcements in this region will increase with time as the need to improve fuel efficiency increases due to stringent environmental regulations that have come into effect in January 2017.
In Latin America, steel is the most widely used reinforcement material due to its low cost. Polyester and rayon are also being adopted in certain areas as a substitute for nylon which has higher prices despite better performance. The demand for tire reinforcements will increase steadily overtime at an average growth rate of about 12% owing to increasing automotive production requirements.
Growth Factors
The growth of the global tire reinforcement market is driven by a variety of factors such as increasing demand for durable and fuel-efficient tires, rising use of synthetic fibers in the manufacturing process, development in rubber compounds to enhance performance under specific conditions. In addition, less wear at the edges also leads to more tread on tires which will create opportunities for companies in the global tire reinforcement market. Furthermore, governments are also incentivizing the use of fuel-efficient vehicles in various regions which will increase demand for tires and thereby strengthen growth prospects for companies operating in this market.
