Global Patient Monitors Market by Type (Pulse oximeters, Spirometers, Capnographs, Peak flow meters), By Application (Hospitals & Clinics, Home Settings, Ambulatory Surgical Centers (ASC)) and Region (North America, Latin America, Europe, Asia Pacific and Middle East & Africa), Forecast To 2028
The Global Patient Monitors Market size was valued at USD 7.2 billion in 2021 and is projected to reach about USD 12.6 billion by 2028, growing at a CAGR of 4.4% during the forecast period (2021-2028). The increase in the geriatric population coupled with rising in chronic diseases is one of the factors driving the growth of this market globally.
A patient monitor is a device that provides vital signs data to medical staff. A pulse oximeter measures the oxygen saturation of hemoglobin in the blood, and spirometers measure lung function and peak flow meters measure respiratory rates. These devices are used by healthcare professionals for diagnosis or follow-up care while ambulatory patients may use them as part of their home care regimen.
On the basis of Types, the market is segmented into Pulse oximeters, Spirometers, Capnography, and Peak flow meter. The market is witnessing significant growth in the segment of pulse oximeters owing to its widespread use across various applications such as home care or hospital settings, which are considered high-grow.
Pulse Oximeter:
Pulse oximeters are medical devices that measure the saturation of oxygen in a person's blood by shining light onto their fingertip and measuring how much is absorbed. This device helps to determine if someone has low or high levels of oxygen. Pulse oximeters have applications for screening newborns, assessing patients before surgery or during anesthesia, monitoring conditions such as sleep apnea and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), and helping diagnose lung cancer.
Spirometer:
Spirometers are a type of device that measures the amount of air someone breathes in and out. Spirometers can detect problems such as asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), or sleep apnea by measuring how much oxygen is being inhaled and exhaled over time. Spirometer devices may be used to identify patients at risk for heart attack who also have COPD because their lung function declines with age.
Capnography:
Capnography is the measurement of expired carbon dioxide in order to assess respiratory function. Capnography consists of a sensor that measures CO and an alarm or indicator device for displaying measured data. They are often used as part of neonatal resuscitation, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), emergency medical services (EMS) assessment, operating room monitoring (ORM), and other patient care settings where detailed information about respiration is needed.
The most basic capnograph consists only of one channel measuring CO with an alarm set at 35 mmHg above ambient pressure which provides a rough estimate of end-tidal partial pressure within alveoli but depends on ventilation volume and varies during CPR when there may be incomplete exhalation.
Fiberoptic capnography is a more advanced form of capnograph which uses an optical probe to measure CO and the concentration of oxygen in alveolar air, providing a near-instantaneous measurement during CPR with no contact or interruption to chest compressions as well as continuous monitoring for neonatal resuscitation.
Peak Flow Meter:
Peak flow meters measure the amount of air that a person can forcibly breathe out at one time. Peak flow rates are measured in liters per second, and peak flows help to diagnose asthma or other respiratory illnesses such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and bronchitis.
The peak flow meter measures how quickly a person can forcefully blow out air from their lungs. It does not require any other instrumentation and has been shown to be accurate enough for most people's needs because it is considered non-invasive, easy to use, inexpensive, and can provide feedback about health risks including asthma symptoms within minutes. Peak flow meters are sometimes used instead of spirometers by occupational physicians when evaluating pulmonary function.
On the basis of Application, the market is segmented into Hospitals & Clinics, Home Settings, and Ambulatory Surgical Centers (ASC).
Hospitals & Clinics:
As patient monitors are being used in hospitals and clinics, they have been an indispensable part of this sector. There has been a dramatic increase in use for both primary care physicians as well as specialists too. The reason behind such a rise is that one can get accurate information about their health condition within moments by using these machines rather than waiting for days or weeks to know what’s happening with them. In short, there is no need to depend on memory anymore when it comes to taking down notes which makes it easier for medical professionals to monitor patients at all times without any worries whatsoever.
Home Settings:
Patient monitor devices can be used to measure heart rate and rhythm (ECG) while also recording other vital signs like blood pressure or oxygen levels. These capabilities make them useful tools that help family members detect emergencies at home before they escalate into life-threatening situations. For example, a person might have experienced an episode of sleep apnea without even knowing it until their loved ones noticed changes in breathing patterns via a video feed from the bedroom: Oxygen saturation as measured by pulse oximetry where device shines infrared light through capillaries under fingernails or on the top lip; or ECG, which records the electrical activity of the heart.
Power outages are a common occurrence in many parts of the world and when they happen, family members may not be able to call an ambulance even if there is one available. This can make home monitoring with patient monitors especially important for people who live alone or do not yet have telemedicine services within their country. Patients recovering from surgery might also benefit from having these devices at home since it would allow caregivers to watch closely over them without needing to stay overnight all night long. Additionally, patients that need frequent visits by medical professionals (elderly) can use these tools instead of relying on expensive taxi rides and other transportation methods that come with significant wait times between each trip outside of their home.
Ambulatory Surgical Centers (ASC):
In the ASCs, a patient monitor is used to measure and display vital signs such as heart rate, blood pressure, oxygen saturation levels; in some cases even ECGs are available. Patient monitors can also be helpful for monitoring anesthetic depth during surgery or diagnosing cardiac arrhythmias. In addition to these functions, most modern-day monitors have alarms that sound when certain parameters exceed preset values. These alarms reduce the need for additional staff at clinical sites since it automatically alerts them if there's a problem with the monitored patient's vitals which may require immediate intervention by medical professionals.
On the basis of Region, the market is segmented into North America, Latin America, Europe, Asia Pacific, and the Middle East & Africa. In the North America region market is lead by the USA followed by Canada whereas in Asia-Pacific it is led by China as well as Japan due to higher R&D investments of OEMs in these countries for improving patient care with more advanced technology such as wireless connectivity and artificial intelligence (AI) devices that can improve accuracy on vital signs monitoring.
In 2018, North America surpassed Europe in terms of value due to continuously developed infrastructure, and a high adoption rate among hospitals & clinics whereas Latin America is one of the fastest-growing regions that has seen immense potential given its low penetration rates coupled with an increase in infrastructural spending.
North America led the global marketplace with a 41% share followed by Europe while the Asia Pacific region was anticipated to be the fastest-growing region due to continuous developments in infrastructural spendings coupled with an increase in technological innovations which would further result in improved penetration rates among hospitals & clinics.
Growth Factors For The Global Patient Monitors Market:
There are various factors attributed to the growth of the global patient monitors market. Factors such as the rising incidence of chronic diseases, increase in demand for remote healthcare services, and technological advancements leading to better quality care have led to increased use of these devices.
Home Settings is expected to drive growth in the Patient Monitors Market during the forecast period owing to increasing incidences of chronic diseases and aging population combined with rising awareness about early diagnosis leading to increased demand for home healthcare equipment such as personal electronic devices (PEDs) including mobile pulse oximeters and smart spirometers which can be used at home or outside clinical settings without any doctor's supervision.
