Global Gasoline Engines Market by Type (2 Stroke, 4 Stroke), By Application (Automotive, Aircraft, Marine, Agricultural Machine) and Region (North America, Latin America, Europe, Asia Pacific and Middle East & Africa), Forecast To 2028
The Global Gasoline Engines Market size is expected to grow at a CAGR of 4.8% during the forecast period and will reach USD 409.3 billion by 2028 from USD 279.0 billion in 2017. The growth of the market can be attributed to the increasing demand for light and heavy-duty vehicles in emerging economies and escalating environmental concerns over fossil fuels that have led many countries to introduce strict emission norms for both passenger cars as well as commercial vehicles.
Gasoline Engines are combustion engine which utilizes the heat of an air-fuel mixture to create expansion in a piston chamber and produce mechanical energy. They can be classified into two categories, four-stroke, and two-stroke engines. Gasoline engines generate power by applying force on gas molecules in order to expand them for more volume; this change generates pressure that is applied against the pistons, causing motion. Gasoline engines are the most widely used type of engine and more than two-thirds of all cars in use worldwide run on gasoline.
On the basis of Type, the market is segmented into Two Stroke and Four Stroke. The most popular variant is a four-stroke gasoline engine as it has been around for nearly 150 years which offers higher fuel efficiency than other power sources with lower emission levels when compared to marine diesel engines due to its design that reduces heat loss through a constant cooling system operation during combustion cycles.
Two-Stroke Engines:
These types of gasoline engines are less efficient than their counterpart but consume a smaller amount of fuel because they do not need to take breaks like four-stroke engines, allowing them to run continuously. They also have the ability to produce more power compared with its counterpart. This is due in part that combustion takes place every revolution rather than just once per cycle as it does for four strokes and can be found primarily on higher performance machines such as motorcycles, snowmobiles, or jet skis.
Four Stroke Engines:
These types of gasoline engines use an Otto cycle mechanism built with four strokes (intake, compression/combustion, exhaust, and intake) while generating one revolution per turn of the crankshaft. This type has higher efficiency levels than its counterpart as it does not need time to cool off before turning again like two-stroke engines. This type of gasoline engine is more efficient than its counterpart and uses a lower amount of fuel. It has to come to a complete stop before it starts back up again unlike two-stroke engines but takes time for cooling off after each cycle due in part that combustion only happens once per cycle instead as with the two strokers.
The four-stroke design is often preferred for its higher efficiency but it requires an oil pump which means that the car needs to have external fuel injection rather than relying solely upon carburetors (although these days many newer vehicles will mix both technologies).
On the basis of Application, the market is segmented into Automotive, Aircrafts, Marine, and Agricultural machines.
Automotive:
The Global Gasoline Engines Market has experienced moderate growth in recent years due to increased demand for efficient engines from different industries such as the automotive industry. The aircraft engine market is expected to exhibit strong growth on account of the rising requirements for fuel-efficient engines by airlines over the next decade which will drive global gas-powered aircraft engine markets.
Aircraft:
The major use of gasoline engines in aircraft is for powering the auxiliary power unit. This engine produces electricity to run avionics, such as radios and navigation systems. It also provides air conditioning, pressurization, and heating for passengers/crews onboard an airplane while it's sitting at the gate or during taxiing operations. It can be found in a few other places too-such as the ground power unit that connects with planes when they're parked so their batteries are charged before takeoff. The engine used here resembles an automobile generator set mounted under a trailer - only much smaller than you might find on a construction site because it's required to produce only about 400 kilowatts (KW) of continuous output power rather than thousands like those used for construction.
Marines:
There are various uses of gasoline engines in the marine sector. The engines find application in a large range of vessels like inland waterway trade, fishing boats, and offshore supply vessels. Marine diesel engines have been traditionally used for powering these types of ships but due to their high emissions levels, they may not be suitable for certain applications or regions where environmental regulations limit the usage of such devices even if they offer higher fuel efficiency than other power sources. It is also difficult to store enough diesel on board many vessel types because it requires more space when compared with gasoline fuels that can be stored at lower volumes while providing comparable energy capacity per unit volume as well as being easier to handle and transport. Gasoline engines require significantly less maintenance which means that ship operators will incur lower costs in the long run.
Agriculture Machines:
The gasoline engine was first employed in mowing machines for agriculture. They were introduced at the end of the 19th century and used mainly by farmers to trim grass around their farms. Agricultural markets include tractors, tillers, harvesters for harvesting rice straws from paddy fields after harvest; corn threshers used to separate the grain from its outer husks; cotton strippers that remove unwanted fibers from raw cotton bolls before engineering steps; livestock feed mills which mix together various types of grains or legumes into animal feeds at a calculated ratio depending on desired nutrients content.
On the basis of Region, the market is segmented into North America, Latin America, Europe, Asia Pacific, and Middle East & Africa. North America accounted for the largest share of the overall market in 2017; however, its regional revenue is set to decline over the forecast period due to increasing environmental regulations that will limit emissions from gasoline engines starting 2020. The main countries where these regulations are likely to be enforced include Canada and Mexico.
Latin American countries such as Brazil have emerged as a key region for agricultural machinery with an increase in both livestock farms and urbanization which provide opportunities for increased sales of agricultural equipment. Countries like Argentina benefit from favorable trade agreements compared to other parts of South America. Europe dominates this segment with large markets across France, Italy, or Germany alone accounting for more than 25% of the global market.
