Flexible sealants are a type of fireproofing material that is applied as an adhesive or coating to walls and other surfaces in order to protect them from damage due to the spread of fires. These products can be either elastometric (rubber-like) or intumescent (foam). They work by forming a layer, which may have been treated with flame retardant chemicals, between the surface being protected and any flames which reach it. Elastometric type sealants are made up of a rubber-like polymer, usually polyvinyl chloride. They also have great resistance to chemicals that can break down other types of sealing products like chemical-resistant paints or adhesives.
Intumescent Type:
The intumescent type is a sealant that fills up the spaces with expanding material when it comes into contact with fire; this prevents heat from passing through. Apart from applying to prevent leakage during construction, the intumescent sealants can be used in pipes and ducts as well. The material expands quickly after being exposed to fire so there’s no time for it to harden before expansion starts.

Commercial Buildings:
Flexible sealant in commercial buildings is used to prevent leakage between the interior and exterior of a building. It protects against external water damage, such as from rain or flooding, by maintaining the separation between inside and outside air pressure. Flexible sealants are also used for weatherproofing construction joints with mortar-free openings (e.g., slits). They can be installed quickly without specialized skills and provide protection that lasts up to 20 years.
Industrial Buildings:
The fire-resistant flexible sealant is used in industrial buildings to close the gaps and cracks which would allow oxygen to pass through. By sealing these doors, less airflow will be available for a fire that may have started on another floor or area of the building. This can help prevent an inferno from spreading quickly throughout the whole structure when left unchecked.
