Hand Tools

Power Tools
Power tool drain cleaning equipment is used for removing debris from drains. Powered devices can be powered by either electricity or compressed air, with the latter being more common as it reduces maintenance costs and provides a lower cost of ownership.

Municipal:
In this type of application, drain rods are used for clearing out clogged drains or pipes by pushing them down from end-to-end through the pipe until they reach at least one obstruction that can then be removed mechanically with hand tools such as pliers or spud wrenches. Drain cleaners need not only be pulled up when the obstruction is reached. Drain cleaners can also be pushed down, and they need not go below ground level to remove obstructions.
Residential:
Drain cleaners are also used for clearing clogged drains or pipes in the home. This application is common among people who do not have access to a plunger and typically use their hands to create suction by plunging them deep into sinkholes. In this case, drain rods can be equipped with rubber sleeve types that offer more grip than metal sleeves when pulled up from end-to-end through the pipe until they reach at least one obstruction that can then be removed mechanically with hand tools such as pliers or spud wrenches.
Industrial:
Industrial drain cleaners are mostly used in the restaurant industry for removing grease and debris from drains. These units can be either hand-powered, air-powered, or electric.
