Global Cardiac Catheters and Guidewires Market by Type (Angiographic Balloon Catheters, Bipolar Pacing Pins, Hexapolar Balloon Pacing Catheters, Semi Flotating Electrodes, Wedge Pressure Catheter, Thermodilution Infusion Catheter, Others), By Application (Hospital Pharmacies, Retail Pharmacies, Drug Stores, Online Sales) and Region (North America, Latin America, Europe, Asia Pacific and Middle East & Africa), Forecast To 2028
The Global Cardiac Catheters and Guidewires Market size are projected to grow from USD 1.7 billion in 2018, at a CAGR of 6.6% over the forecast period 2019-2028. The major factors driving this growth are the increasing prevalence of cardiovascular disorders, technological advancements in the medical device industry, and rising demand for minimally invasive procedures due to its advantages such as lower cost, reduced risk of infection, quicker recovery time, etc. However, due to several risk factors such as high cost associated with catheterization procedures, stringent regulatory framework and lack of awareness among patients may restrain their growth during forecast years.
Cardiac Catheters and Guidewires are the medical devices that help to manage various heart-related problems. Cardiac Catheter is a thin tube, which inserted through the blood vessels of the body into a particular organ or cavity for finding out what's going on inside it. The guidewire is a wire with an enlarged end used to guide other tools during thoracic surgery and cardiac procedures such as angioplasty (unblocking arteries). They can be broadly classified based on their applications in cardiovascular medicine: coronary artery disease, peripheral arterial diseases, valvular heart disease, congenital anomalies, etc.
On the basis of Type, the market is segmented into Angiographic Balloon Catheters, Bipolar Pacing Pins, Hexapolar Balloon Pacing Catheters, Semi Floating Electrodes, and Thermodilution Infusion Catheter.
Angiographic Balloon Catheters:
Angiographic Balloon Catheters are the devices that are used for the procedure of angiography. It is made up of a balloon with an inflatable outer sheath. The catheter can be inserted into an artery in the body, through which contrast media may enter to show the details of arteries and veins on a radiograph or CT scan. There are three types:
Angioplasty balloons - these help restore blood flow by opening clogged arteries; Angiographic guides- provide information about where to insert stents during angioplasties; Ligasure devices- it helps close off blood vessels after surgery.
Bipolar Pacing Pins:
Bipolar Pacing Pins are cardiac catheter devices that have two electrodes on either side of their tip; it helps doctors insert these pins into different parts of their patients' hearts so as to locate and pace specific areas without causing too much disruption in their natural rhythm (which would otherwise lead them towards arrhythmia). These devices deliver electrical pulses to stimulate cardiac muscle cells and regulate heart rate and rhythm, they can also be used for mapping the location of nodes within the myocardium.
Bipolar Pacing Pins are used for:
- Cardiac mapping in cases of arrhythmia.
- Stimulation and ablation of atrial tachyarrhythmias (atrial fibrillation and flutter).
- Accelerating recovery from a heart attack, by providing electrical stimulation to the myocardial muscle cells.
Hexapolar Balloon Pacing Catheters:
Hexapolar Balloon Pacing Catheters are cardiac catheter devices that are used for pacing and mapping the heart rhythms. They can be used to map out abnormalities in a person's heart rhythm, via their electrophysiology study process.
The device is inserted through a patient's femoral artery (in the groin), up into the left ventricle of their heart. When it has reached its destination, they will turn on an ultrasound system which will find where each electrode needs to be positioned inside the chamber so that they're correctly connected with one another. Once this has been achieved, you'll carefully place these electrodes just beneath your fingertips onto any parts of your chest wall or onto areas near your ribs and then your arm, in order to be able to read the heart's electrical impulses.
Semi Floating Electrodes:
The semi-floating electrodes are used to measure the electrical activity of cardiac cells. It has two small metal discs that produce a current, which can be measured by another device like an electrocardiograph or ECG machine. The electric charge will flow through both the heart and surrounding tissues; however, it is not able to pass soundly through fluids (like blood). This produces a signal on an ECG tracing called "semi-floating."
The electrodes are placed on the chest of a patient and will only measure signals that come from within the heart. The ECG machine is used when measuring semi-floating activity to display this information as well, though some models can detect it without one.
Thermodilution Infusion Catheter:
It includes a catheter with an inflatable balloon at its tip, which is used to measure changes in blood flow through coronary arteries during cardiac angiography or doppler studies.
Thermodilution Infusion Catheter can be broken down into two types: un-powered Thermodilution Infusion Catheter and powered Thermodilution Infusion Catheter. The main difference between these two models is that power assist allows for less patient movement than un-powered ones, making it easier for doctors to get accurate readings from patients who are not cooperative. Powered versions have another advantage over their non-powered counterparts as well: they allow physicians to insert seminate an IV with saline to inflate the bladder.
On the basis of Application, the market is segmented into Hospital Pharmacies, Retail Pharmacies, Drug Stores, and Online Sales. Hospital pharmacies offer a wide range of products to handle various cases that include cardiology-related surgeries or procedures for cardiovascular diseases such as angioplasty which might need surgery-related devices like cardiac catheters and guidewires etc., retail pharmacy offers medical supplies including Cardiovascular Devices; Drug Stores also offer wide ranges of medical supplies that include Cardiovascular Devices.
On the basis of Region, the market is segmented into North America, Latin America, Europe, Asia Pacific, and Middle East & Africa. The North American market is the largest in terms of revenue and is expected to witness significant growth during the forecast period. The North American region accounted for over 50% share of the global market, followed by Latin America with 25%. Europe comes third generating only 13% of the overall demand.
The Asia Pacific has emerged as one of the fastest-growing regions and will continue its dominance throughout 2028. The APAC region generates nearly 45% share or more than half of all revenues generated from cardiac catheters and guidewires across the globe which makes it an important area for companies to focus on while developing their business strategies. Japan dominates this region with almost 30% share in Asia Pacific’s overall revenue, contributing significantly towards total regional sales globally.
