Global Automotive Smart Antenna Market by Type (High Frequency, Very High Frequency, Ultra-High Frequency), By Application (Passenger Vehicle, Commercial Vehicle) and Region (North America, Latin America, Europe, Asia Pacific and Middle East & Africa), Forecast To 2028
The Global Automotive Smart Antenna Market size is projected to grow at a CAGR of 9.4% during the forecast period and will grow from USD 4.09 billion in 2021 to USD 8.89 billion by 2028. This growth can be attributed to factors such as increasing demand for safety features in vehicles and increased focus on reducing fuel consumption through lightweight materials which require better antenna performance.
An antenna is a device that transmits and receives radio waves through space. In the automotive industry, the antennas are usually made of metal alloys such as copper or aluminum to withstand extreme conditions in vehicles such as wide temperature fluctuations, vibration, pressure, and humidity levels. The increasing demand for safety features has resulted in more sensors being put into cars which requires better wireless performance from antennas.
Antennas transmit electromagnetic signals between devices by emitting an electric field perpendicular to a magnetic plane on which it propagates at the speed of light. These fields can be monitored by other receivers with similar capability within range (line-of-sight) depending upon signal frequency; this enables radios using these frequencies to communicate without wires when they have sufficient power.
On the basis of Types, the market is segmented into high frequency, very high frequency, and ultra-high frequency.
High frequency:
High frequency (HF) is the ITU designation for radio frequencies in the range of 30 kilohertz to 300 gigahertz. The corresponding wavelength ranges from ten-kilometer, at 30 kHz, up to one millimeter, at 300 GHz.
The spectrum is often divided into three bands: high-frequency band - HF or microwave; middle-frequency band - MF and low- (or ultra-) frequency band − LF/LF-. High frequency includes a wide now of applications such as land mobile radios, two-way radios that require line-of-sight contact with antennas on tall buildings/towers. In both cases, there can be an application where vertical polarization will provide better reception than horizontal polarization meaning it's important to have both versions of the antenna.
The HF bands are subdivided into three major groups: Very High Frequency (VHF) is from 30 to 200 megahertz; Ultra-High Frequency (UHF) or microwave, ranges from 300 MHz to 3000 GHz and Extremely Low Frequency that includes all frequencies below 100 kHz in the radio spectrum.
Very high frequency:
The very high frequency (VHF) is the radio spectrum in between 30 MHz and 300 MHz. In contrast to UHF, VHF signals are less able to penetrate buildings and other obstructions with greater ease than their higher-frequency counterparts but offer weaker atmospheric interference due to shorter wavelengths. This allows them to transmit over long distances at lower power levels while also providing simultaneous access for many listeners within a given area.
The most common types of VHF have been television channels from two through thirteen. The broadcast ranges from about 48–250 miles (77–400 km), depending on terrain and transmission power restrictions, as well as regulations governing each country's individual airspace boundaries.[citation needed] Channel 14 was added after World War II and was used for emergency announcements.
Ultra-high frequency:
Ultra-high frequency refers to radio frequencies that are beyond 3000MHz - 30GHz. The frequency is typically employed in wireless communication such as microwave ovens, satellite communications, and radar. Ultra-high frequency is often abbreviated as "UHF."
The most common types of UHF have been television channels from fourteen through seventy-eight. The broadcast ranges are typically limited to a radius of about 16 miles (25km) for analog TV, based on terrain and transmission power restrictions, as well as regulations governing each country's individual airspace boundaries. Channel 69 is an example of the maximum allowable frequency that can be used by one broadcaster in North America. In Europe channel 37 was similarly assigned but with much more restrictive range limits.
On the basis of Application, the market is segmented into passenger vehicles and commercial vehicles. Passenger Vehicle segment includes cars, light-duty trucks, heavy-duty vans & buses whereas Commercial Vehicles include tractors, delivery vehicles or other work-related equipment.
Passenger vehicles:
Passenger Vehicle segment includes cars, light-duty trucks, heavy-duty vans & buses whereas Commercial Vehicles include tractors, delivery vehicles or other work-related equipment.
In Passenger vehicles, automotive smart antenna systems are installed on the car to provide a better radio signal for connecting with remote towers that serve as an interface between the driver of the automobile (or passengers in case of public transport) and their communication partners.
Commercial vehicle:
In Commercial Vehicles, automotive smart antenna systems are installed on the tractor or some other work-related equipment to provide a better radio signal for connecting with remote towers that serve as an interface between the driver of the commercial vehicle (or operator in case of public transport) and their communication partners.
For example, Automotive Smart Antenna Systems can be seen on tractors transporting goods across vast distances over inhospitable terrains. In this scenario, cargo sensors track containers from one end of a truck bed to another at high speeds without any interruption. The truck's electronic control unit (ECU) logs data relayed by antennas mounted on both sides so when it arrives at its destination there is no need for manual inputting such as weight scales or barcode readers.
On the basis of Region, the market is segmented into North America, Latin America, Europe, Asia Pacific, and Middle East & Africa.
North America region has more advanced technology than other regions for the automotive smart antenna industry mainly due to the availability of raw materials in this region as well as higher demand from the population.
Asia Pacific region will show the highest growth rate during the forecast period owing to expanding the number of car factories and increasing investments by new players in China.
The Middle East & Africa (MEA) region is predicted to grow at a moderate CAGR on account of low initial infrastructure cost which leads people to purchase vehicles with fewer features or lower-priced cars rather than spending money on upgrading their existing facilities that need frequent maintenance activities.
Growth factors For The Automotive Smart Antenna Market:
The major drivers for this growth are the increasing requirement towards improving safety features on cars and an increase in demand from emerging economies such as China & India which will lead to increased adoption of wireless technologies with high levels of density close proximity communications (DRC) systems that need RF antennas. Furthermore, rising concerns about pollution intensity have led people to prefer electric vehicles over traditional ones which leads them towards embracing DRCs systems fitted with wireless technology.
The passenger vehicle segment accounted for the largest market share in 2018, owing to the high demand for passenger vehicles across various regions. The rising number of hybrid electric and fully-electric cars is expected to boost market growth during the forecast period due to its significant impact on reducing greenhouse gas emissions from the transportation sector, as well as improving fuel efficiency which has led manufacturers such as Tesla Motors (US) and Nissan Motor Company Ltd (Japan) introduce new models with smart antennas technology. Furthermore, increasing privacy concerns among passengers will also push up the global automotive smart antenna market size by 2028.
