Global Aircraft Propeller Market by Type (Blades, Hubs, Spinners, Others), By Application (Military Aircraft, Civil & Commercial Aircraft) and Region (North America, Latin America, Europe, Asia Pacific and Middle East & Africa), Forecast To 2028
The global aircraft propeller market is expected to grow at a CAGR of 5.5% during the forecast period from 2018-2028, which will lead to an estimated revenue of US$112 billion by 2028. This report studies the global aircraft propeller market in terms of value and volume. On the basis of type, this report covers blades, hubs, spinners and others; on the basis of application it analyzes military aircraft as well as civil and commercial aircraft; while on the regional level it analyses North America (US), Latin America (Brazil), Europe (Germany), Asia Pacific (China) and Middle East & Africa (Saudi Arabia).
An aircraft propeller is a device that creates thrust by rotating around a horizontal axis. It may be fixed or rotatable, though the most common forms of aircraft propellers are fixed-pitch and constant speed types. Aircraft engines typically produce more power than is needed to drive the compressor at design conditions; this excess power can be used to propel a single prop or multiple props in order for an engine to operate over its range without exceeding temperature limitations.
There are two main places on an airplane where we will find one or more propellers - these include near the nose (or front) and under each wing (on either side). Propellers act like airfoils and when they rotate, they cause velocity changes which create an airflow that we call thrust.
Aircraft propellers are typically categorized by the number of blades, and they can be fixed-pitch or constant speed types. Fixed pitch means that there is a set amount of lift generated at all times regardless of engine RPMs (revolutions per minute) while in contrast to this, Constant Speed propeller design has variable blade angles which will change as necessary in order to maintain optimal throttle settings for efficiency under varying conditions such as altitude changes.
On the basis of type, the global aircraft propeller market is segmented into blades, hubs, spinners, and others.
Blades
Typical blades type aircraft propellers are the most common one and is used in military as well as commercial applications. Blades-type aircraft propeller has a spinning hub with two or more airfoils (blades) that propel air to generate thrust, which may be curved depending on their design. Hubs can have anywhere from four up to nine blades though there exist variations of this design too. The size of these types of props depend largely on the power requirements for propulsion they require for an aircraft's engine; larger diameter engines need bigger blades than smaller ones do.
Hubs
Hubs-type aircraft propellers are mechanical components that convert rotation from the engine to the rotational motion of the blades. These hubs have been used in engines for many years and they can be found on traditional piston-engine powered airplanes, as well as turboprop propulsion systems. Hubs also allow pilots to adjust airflow around them while taking off, flying level at high altitude, maneuvering during take-offs and landings as well as controlling speed with throttles. They have a three-bladed propeller rotating about three axes: one horizontal axis at right angles to both vertical axes.
Spinners
spinners are the aircraft propeller type which includes blades and hub. spinners have a higher efficiency than conventional or traditional types of aircraft propellers, mainly due to their ability to use less power in order for it to perform at its maximum level while maintaining good performance. this is because they do not need as much torque from the engine since they possess a higher spin rate.
On the basis of application, the global aircraft propeller market is segmented into military aircraft, civil & commercial aircraft.
Military Aircraft
The military aircraft segment is mainly used for defense purposes. It includes the use of propellers in attack helicopters, fighter jets and bomber planes to provide thrust and control during takeoff, landing as well as maneuvering.
Civil & Commercial Aircraft
The civil & commercial aircraft application of aircraft propeller is the market with the highest demand in the global aviation industry. The civil application of aircraft propeller is for general aviation. General aviation includes all non-commercial flights, such as corporate jets and private planes. It also encompasses commercial passenger airliners that do not carry cargo or mail aboard the plane. So a typical form of aircraft propeller would be used in this sector to generate thrust on an airplane's engine which helps it fly forward.
On the basis of region, the global aircraft propeller market is segmented into North America, Latin America, Europe, Asia Pacific and Middle East & Africa. in 2017, North America accounted for the largest share of the global aircraft propeller market. this is attributed to high demand for military and civil/commercial aircraft throughout the region. the civil/commercial aircraft segment in North America has been witnessing a steady increase due to increasing demand for regional and long-distance flights.
In 2017, Asia Pacific is expected be fastest growing region owing to high market penetration of military aircrafts as well as strong economic development in emerging economies such as India and China among others. This growth will further fuel the manufacturing process which leads to an increased production volume.
Growth Factors
-Increasing demand for North American civil & commercial aircrafts in the next five years.
-Asia Pacific region is expected to dominate the global propeller market by 2028.
-Rapid growth in the Middle East & Africa region.
-Increased demand for different types of propellers, such as blades and spinners.
