Polyurethane suspension bushings are designed to minimize the installation and maintenance costs associated with rubber suspension bushings. Polyurethane is a durable polymer that can be pressurized or molded into different shapes, providing more stability than common rubber materials. Polyurethanes also have better chemical resistance, so polyurethane suspensions last longer in wet conditions such as coastal areas where saltwater corrosion will shorten the life of less durable materials like rubber. On average, polyurethane bushes cost about three times as much per unit when compared with rubber ones; however, they provide additional lifetime savings due to their durability.
