Activated Vinyl Compound:

Activated Vinyl Compound Reactive Dyes are a type of reactive dye that is made by reacting an acid with a vinyl compound. The resultant product has both the properties of the base and the acid used as reactants, which gives it excellent fastness to light, washing, heat, and perspiration. It can be applied in polyester fiber using chrome metal mordant or sulfuric-acid mordant on protein fibers such as wool and silk.

Polyester:

Reactive Dyes are used in the production of polyester fibers. Polyesters are popular due to their ability to withstand abrasion well as they have good resistance against sunlight fading and water damage. Reactive dyes react with compounds in the polyester, such as esters, amides, alcohols, and phenols, using an alkaline solution containing sodium hydroxide (NaOH). Reactive Dyes are used in textile manufacturing as a colorant for the production of polyester. Polyester is popularly made to produce Viscose, Terylene, and Lyocell, which can be made into various products like clothing, carpets, or curtains. Reactive dyes have also found use in other applications such as leather dyeing during the tanning process instance.

 

Nylon and Polyurethane Fibers:

Reactive dyes are also used in the application of dying cotton textiles. These types of reactive dye applications can be through either a bath or spray process and both will have different intensities on the final color outcome. Reactive dyes for this type of textile are often applied after being mixed with other chemicals to produce special effects such as duller colors, brighter colors, pastels, and more. In some cases, they're mixed before applying them to fabric for even greater control over end product appearance and intensity.

 

Wool and Silk:

Reactive dyes are used to color wool and silk. The most common way of utilizing these types of reactive dyes is by using a fermentation process, where the material is immersed in a vat containing the dye mixture for anywhere from 24 hours up to 48 hours long. This will produce an intense colored yarn that can be used as needed without any further processing necessary. The process of reactive dyeing is done by adding the needed reactants into a vat or container such as water, soda ash (sodium carbonate), an acid, and sodium bicarbonate. This will produce intense colors that can be used immediately without any other processing required. For wool, the most common type of reactive dyes is anthraquinone and indigo types. For silk, they can be azo or acid dye types.
