Cohesive OVDs

Cohesive OVDs are those that come in a solid form which is injected intraocularly before surgery to help maintain the shape of the eye during cataract removal procedures and they provide permanent assistance for surgical procedures unlike dispersing oculoplastics. Cohesive OVDs unlike dispersive, provide both short-term (temporary) or long-term solutions (permanent). This type of ophthalmic viscoelastic device does not liquefy at all rather they offer a solid form to adhere onto natural tissues in order to maintain its shape after injection.

Combination OVDs

Combination OVDs are viscoelastic devices that have both properties of a dispersive and cohesive type, these types offer a temporary as well as a long-term solution to post-surgery pressure within the eye cavity because it has been designed with an initial low flow rate but will turn into liquid after injection or injection combined with irrigation so as to be able to adhere onto natural tissues. Combinations also stay liquefied for a long period of time.

Visco-Adaptive OVDs

Visco-adaptive OVDs are those that have the ability to change viscosity according to intraocular pressure or other physiological changes within the eye cavity, this type is being used more and more in recent years because it provides an excellent solution for patients who suffer from dry eye syndrome and other related eye ailments.
