Anatase is a titanium dioxide pigment that has the highest refractive index of all-natural pigments. It consists of anatase crystals, which are octahedra-like particles with four cleavages on their faces and additionally one cleavage along each edge. Anatase also has exceptional hardness, second only to rutile titanium dioxide (which is rare). When mixed into paint or ink before being applied as colorant onto the surface, it provides both opacity and intense glossiness.
