SA Node Nodal Block:

SA node block is a temporary disruption of the electrical impulses that make up the heart's rhythm. A SA node nodal block happens when one or more natural pacemaker cells in the upper right chamber of the heart, known as sinus nodes, are not functioning properly. The lack of impulse to these cells disrupts their ability to send signals for contractions throughout other parts of the heart and creates irregular rhythms that may be life-threatening if left untreated.

The SA node sends signals to both ventricles of the heart through one bundle of fibers called His-Purkinje System or Bundle Of Kent. This system helps in the contraction and relaxation of the ventricular myocardium which is located on either side of a muscular septum that separates left from right chambers. Abnormalities such as congenital defects can result in an excessive electrical activity by cells near the SA node or tissue death due to injury may lead to conduction abnormalities at this site resulting in SA node block.

 

AV Node Nodal Block:

AV Node Nodal Block can be defined as a blockage of signals from the heart to prevent it from contracting. This can be because of a problem with the electrical impulse or mechanical obstruction in one of its conduction pathways. The AV node is located in the lower mid-portion of the heart. The electrical impulse from the sinoatrial (SA) node spreads to both ventricles and splits before entering them. It then stimulates the contraction of these chambers so that blood gets pumped into circulation.

The AV node sends a signal to both ventricles of the heart through one bundle of fibers called Bundle Of His or Bundle Of Kent which helps in contraction and relaxation of the cardiac myocardium located on either side of the muscular septum that separates left from right chambers. Congenital defects such as excessive electrical activity by cells near SA nodes, tissue death due to injury may lead to conduction abnormalities at this site resulting in AV nodal blocks.
