The global entrained bed gasifier market is expected to grow at a CAGR of around 6.8% during the forecast period, 2017-2028. This growth is attributed to factors such as the increasing need for renewable energy sources and the rising demand for gasification in chemical industries. The fixed bed segment dominated the market in 2016 owing to its higher efficiency when compared with fluidized bed technology. Fluidized bed gasifiers are expected to make up a substantial share over the forecast period, 2027-2028 due to their high thermal efficiency and lower cost of operation.

An entrained bed gasifier is a type of gasification process which combines natural coal with oxygen and steam in order to convert the coal into carbon dioxide, hydrogen, water vapor, and other gases. The resulting syngas can be used for heating purposes or converted into fuels like methane (natural gas) or liquid hydrocarbons through additional processing. One advantage of entrained bed gasifiers is their ability to produce more hydrogen (H) than other types of coal conversion systems.

On the basis of type, the global entrained bed gasifier market is segmented into fixed-bed and fluidized-bed.

Fixed Bed

The Fixed Bed type uses a solid material (coal) in order to produce heat for conversion while Fluidized Bed uses vaporized gases instead for heating purposes. The fixed bed entrained gasifier consists of a series of fuel injectors and an air supply, which are used to provide the basic oxygen required for combustion. This configuration may be set up as either horizontal or vertical type. The design is advantageous because it can use low-grade fuels that have been previously rejected by other systems. It also has relatively high operational stability when compared with fluidized bed types, since there is no risk of "tip out" due to lack of control over particle suspension in the reactor vessel. However, this system requires more attention during start-up than does a fluidized bed model and needs longer periods between changes in operating conditions such as heat input or fuel loadings (International Energy Agency).

Fluidized Bed

A fluidized-bed entrained bed gasifier is a process that converts coal and other solid fuels into syngas. The conversion of the fuel takes place in an oxygen-deficient environment, which also prevents any explosions from happening. This type of gasification method can be used for many different types of applications including chemical production, refining, or power generation at petroleum refineries and thermal plants.

Fluidized Bed Gasifiers are commonly utilized where high heat content coals such as anthracite with low ash contents need to be converted to energy sources while minimizing sulfur dioxide emissions (SOx). In this way, they allow carbon capture during combustion by using flue gases to supply both water vapor for precipitation reactions and makeup air for dilution of the pollutant gases.

Chemical & Refining industry

The entrained bed gasifiers are used in the chemical and refining industry for power generation at petroleum refineries and thermal plants. In this way, they allow carbon capture during combustion by using flue gases to supply both water vapor for precipitation reactions and makeup air for dilution of the pollutant gases. Power Industry

In the power industry, entrained bed gasifiers are used to produce steam and heat. This is then utilized by electric generators or thermal power plants. Agriculture

Entrenched Bed Gasification (EBG) technology can be applied in various agricultural operations globally such as rice milling/processing, sugar production from sugar cane, or beetroot processing which enables sustainable bio-energy use with low emissions profile including NOx emission control. EBG systems can be used to produce bio-fuel from straw, wheat, and other crops for use in local combustion engines.
