The Electric Motor Insulation Material Market size is expected to be worth $11.7 billion by 2028, and grow at a CAGR of 7.6% from 2021-2028. The demand for alternative energy sources such as solar power, wind power, hydropower, geothermal energy, and biomass has led to the increase in the construction of new plants across the world which requires insulation materials with high-efficiency ratings.
This growth is also being driven by increasing demand for electric motors used in consumer electronics and appliances which require higher levels of performance including faster start-up times and longer life spans. Electric motor insulation material is an insulating medium used for electric motors. The electrical conductivity of the exposed surfaces has to be negligible in order to prevent short circuits and sparking, so materials with low thermal capacity are preferred as they do not heat up easily due to high current densities.
On the basis of Type, the market is segmented insulation material market is segmented into glass, varnishes, paper and films, rubber, PVC, rigid laminate, resins, and Teflon.
Glass is the most common material for insulation due to its relatively low cost and high chemical resistance. Its thermal conductivity makes it more suitable for higher currents as these are easier to dissipate, but this leads to increased overheating during start-up periods when a motor operates at full load. The main disadvantage of glass is that it breaks easily with temperature fluctuations leading to cracks in electric motors over time.
Varnishes are mainly used on copper wire coils or thin metal sheets which require better flexibility than what can be attained by paper & films while also needing excellent electrical insulating properties. These materials have good mechanical strength against stretching and tearing, exhibit very low leakage current density values, improved adhesion capability between paper & films and metal, and are usually less expensive than paper.
Paper is mainly used on larger wire coils or thin sheets which require better flexibility. They have a lower cost of production per unit area as compared to rubber, but they come with increased installation costs due to the need for protective packaging during shipping. It can also be difficult to remove corrosion from paper insulation material in oil-immersed motors because it tends not to dry; this makes it more prone to damage by loose objects such as chips that could puncture the insulating materials when rotating relative to each other at high speeds.
Rubber has good elasticity properties and low creep resistance which allows for small vibrations along wires without breaking down over time and it has a high dielectric strength. It is also resistant to moisture and it can be installed without any additional installation costs or protective packaging during shipping as compared to paper insulation material. However, rubber does have lower electrical performance properties than other types of insulation materials such as Teflon because its resistance values are higher at low frequencies.
Rigid Laminate material is a type of insulation that contains an electrically insulating polymer as its core and has been sandwiched between two thin sheets of metal. The first layer will be the outer sheet which can be made from aluminum or nickel, with copper being used for more extreme temperatures. The second layer will usually consist of steel though it could also include magnesium or other types of alloys as well. Rigid laminates are most commonly used in electric motors where they provide both thermal performance (to keep it from heating up) and electrical performance to prevent heat loss by preventing contact currents on internal surfaces while still providing excellent resistance to conductive currents due to their high-resistance materials.
Resins are materials that can form a hard, rigid, or semi-rigid material when polymerized and it is commonly used in the manufacturing of plastic items such as packaging. Resin starts out with pellets which will then be heated to create an organic liquid (resin). Once this resin is cooled, it has become thermoplastic meaning its molecular structure breaks down upon heating back up and becomes malleable again leading to quick production cycles. This ability also means resins can be molded into almost any shape desired giving them significant value for many different industries from electronics to construction products like pipes.
It has the lowest cost per unit area when compared with all other insulating materials due to its superior tensile strength and better ability for producing smaller wire coils which need less space on manufacturing machinery. Low creep-resistance means that wires will break down over time if they do not experience small vibrations along their length from things like motors spinning at high speeds; this makes it unsuitable for use in applications with high vibration
On the basis of Application, the market is segmented is segmented into Electronics & Consumer Appliances, Logistics & Material Handling, Mining & Metallurgy, Energy & Power and Oil & Gas. When it comes to the application of insulation material, electric motors are the most demanding type because they need a lot more power and have a higher temperatures. This is due to their heavy-duty workloads and large size which makes them difficult to cool off as well as being subject to changes in environmental conditions such as ambient temperatures or humidity.
On the basis of Region, the market is segmented into North America, Latin America, Europe, and the Asia Pacific. North America dominates in Electric Motor Insulation Material Market followed by Europe; the Asia Pacific will show significant growth during the forecast period due to high demand from China India etc. In Latin America, Brazil was the largest country in this market one reason being that there are many manufacturing plants that use electric motors around South America.
