The Global Dissolved Airfloatation Unit Market size is projected to reach USD 3.4 billion by 2028, at a CAGR of 5.58% during the forecast period (2018-2028). The growth in this market can be attributed to factors such as rising demand for food and beverages, increasing need for specialized equipment in industrial sectors, and technological advancements.
A Dissolved Airfloatation Unit (DAU) is an industrial unit that floats the solids in a liquid so they can be separated. The turbulence caused by the air bubbles causes particles to float and coalesce into larger, more readily dischargeable units. DAUs are traditionally used for wastewater treatment at paper mills or dairies but also have application in oil production as well as other industries where water treatments such as RO membranes cannot sufficiently remove all of the material from the solution.
DAUs work because most solid materials will not sink below certain specific gravity values, which vary depending on particle size and density of individual minerals found in different types of rock formations. The particles that are too small or light may not be removed by this process and must either be filtered out at a downstream stage or through some other means. The material left in the water is conveyed into an open tank for separation from the air, which floats it upwards so that it can coalesce and float more easily on top where it can then be skimmed off during regular intervals. Air floatation units normally consist of one, three, five, seven, or nine individual tanks with different sizes partitioned off according to their use; storage tanks range between 500 gallons up to 9000 gallons.
On the basis of Type, the market is segmented into Open Tank and Plate Pack.
Open tanks are the most commonly used DA units, and they can be found in a variety of industries. They are generally utilized for water treatment or decontamination of wastewater from an industrial plant before it is discharged into local waterways. Open tank DA units provide more efficient separation than other types of dissolved air floatation systems because there is greater gas contact with the floating solids in suspension.
A dissolved air floatation (DA) unit is a closed-loop system that utilizes the natural buoyancy of gases to float suspended solids in suspension. The gas cannot escape from the tank and is usually recycled, which reduces energy consumption by about 70%. Open tank DA units are not sealed but instead have an open-top so they can be filled with water or other liquid waste materials.
The Plate Pack Dissolved Airfloatation Unit is a manufacturing process that uses compressed air in order to remove suspended particles from fluids. A plate pack is a technology in which the solids are pressed together to form cakes. The solids are then removed by the floating arm and carried away with help of gravity, while dissolved gas bubbles rise up through the liquid surface along with perforated plates which have been installed below it.
The plate packs can be made from plastics, aluminum foil, or paper pulp sheets. This unit is commonly used in processes like metal plating or finishing, beverage production (breweries, juice factories), food processing, and packaging industry for fruit juices such as orange juice concentrate.
On the basis of Application, the market is segmented into Oil & Gas Industry, Mining Industry, Automotive Industry, Printing Industry, Dairy Processing (Milk, Yogurt, and Cheese), Paper And Pulp industry which is further bifurcated into Metal Plating And Finishing and Beverage Factories. The market for the application in Food Processing and Packaging sector has been segmented as Fruit Juice Concentrate production.
The Oil & Gas Industry segment captured the largest market share. The demand for air floatation units in this industry is driven by an increase in oil production, especially from deep-water and ultra-deepwater offshore fields, as well as a rise in natural gas exploration activities.
The Mining Industry segment accounted for the second-largest share of the global dissolved air floatation unit market, thanks to rising coal mining activities across Africa and the Asia Pacific. However, increased regulations on coal mining have led to decreasing growth rate in these regions.
On the basis of Region, the market is segmented as North America, Latin American, Europe, and the Asia Pacific. The demand for air floatation units in this market is driven by the increasing production of fruit juice concentrate from fruit juice manufacturers worldwide owing to rising consumer awareness about the benefits of drinking fresh-pressed juice instead of packaged juices.
