Chelated Selenium is used in the feed industry to promote growth, manage disorders and reduce diseases. It can also be utilized as a nutritional supplement for those who cannot consume the right levels of selenium through diet alone. In addition, it enhances immune function and protects against oxidative stress that often occurs due to poor diets or other lifestyle factors like smoking.

The functional food market has begun to take note of this unique antioxidant which helps maintain normal cholesterol levels while providing protection from free radicals and oxidation damage associated with diabetes, cancer cells, and cardiovascular disease (e.g., atherosclerosis). There are some sources indicating that certain antioxidants may have benefits on neurological functions related to cognition but more research is needed into how Chelated Selenium impacts.

Organic Chelated Selenium includes such as Se-methylselenocysteine (MSC), Diselenide, Methylseleniourea, Triselenic acid, and Dimethylethylene selenoxide.

Organic selenium compounds are found in food, feed, and functional foods. Organic Chelated Selenium can be used as an antioxidant to protect cells from damage caused by free radicals. It may also help maintain normal heart function, promote healthy skin and hair growth, enhance immune system functions or increase sperm motility. It is not only effective for humans but also for animals such as poultry and pigs that consume it when they eat grains containing organic chelates of selenium-rich proteins (such as wheat). In 2016, there were no commercial sources available which use this type of organic chelated selenium compound in livestock feeds; however, some companies are expected to release products soon because its use is anticipated to reduce environmental pollution by decreasing the use of inorganic selenium.


Inorganic Chelated Selenium:

Inorganic Chelated Selenium is an organic compound of metal and sulfur. The most common example is selenite, which consists of one molecule of inorganic selenium bound to two molecules of acid hydrogen sulfide (H-S). It can be synthesized by the reaction between sodium hydride (NaH) and elemental selenium. Inorganic Chelated Selenium is used as a pest control agent in animal feed, metalworking fluid, flame retardant, and mainly for health supplements.

Inorganic chelated selenium may be at higher risk than organic since it consists of one molecule of inorganic selenium bound to two molecules of sulfuric acid (H-S). However, the most common example is that it can be synthesized by a reaction between sodium hydride (NaH) and elemental selenium. It's also found in animal feeds as well as other applications.
