Carbomers enhance the performance of moisturizers by preventing moisture loss from the skin surface due to reduction in water activity on the addition of a small amount of polymer successfully emulsify oil & water phases without using surfactants or other additives such as preservatives and fragrances. It offers excellent stability against salts, alkalis at high temperatures even under acidic conditions with no hydrolysis during storage for long periods of time. It enhances the feel properties when added to cosmetics which improve rheological characteristics and provide or improve slip and spreadability to the moisturizers.

 

 

Carbomer 680:

Carbomer 680 is an anionic homopolymer of acrylic acid. It has a very high viscosity and is available in powder or liquid form. Carbomer 680 works best in combination with other polymers like Pemulen TR-500, Carbopol 1382, etc. The product is mainly applied in personal care products such as shampoos, hair conditioners and anti-aging creams among others due to its thickening property and emulsifying properties respectively.
