Hermetically Sealed Reed Switches:

The Hermetically Sealed Reed Switches are the most common type of burglar alarm sensor. They use a reed switch which is housed in an airtight glass tube or capsule, with two metal contacts inside that operate when exposed to magnetic fields. For safety reasons, these sensors should be mounted at least 12 inches (30 cm) off the ground and as high up as possible on any doorframe where they will not interfere with people entering or exiting through doors.

 

Passive Infrared Detectors:

A passive infrared detector is a device that detects the presence of heat, such as from an intruder. It uses a sensor to detect changes in heat patterns on or near a protected area and sends an alarm when it senses significant temperature variations. The IR sensors are sensitive enough to ensure detection even if the trespasser wears dark clothing and tries to hide his/her movements by staying still or holding absolutely motionless.

 

Ultrasonic Detectors:

Ultrasonic detectors are used to detect the sound waves that a burglar makes while trying to break in. Ultrasound is transmitted through walls and objects, so an alarm system with this detector will be able to hear burglars even if they try breaking into your property from another room or outside of your house.

 

Microwave Detectors:

Microwave detectors are devices that use microwaves to detect the presence of an intruder. They do not require a motion sensor and can be installed in any location with no additional wiring requirements. The detector emits microwave radiation for few seconds, which is then reflected back when it meets another object such as a human body or animal. Microwave detectors measure how long it takes for the waves to return via infrared sensors. This information determines if there is someone within range who has been detected by radar and sets off alarms accordingly.

 

Compact Surveillance Radar:

A Compact Surveillance Radar is a type of burglar alarm that is installed in the premises or area which needs to be monitored. This type of security system monitors and detects any movement in the specified location. It can cover an entire room, an outdoor patio, a wooded lot, or even just one corner of your property without being confronted by obstacles such as walls and fences. The compact surveillance radar operates on radio waves instead of infrared beams like most other types of wireless sensors do.

 

Photo-Electric Beams:

Photo-electric beams are an advanced type of burglar alarm that detects motion by using a beam of light and some form of the photoelectric cell. As the beam is broken, it causes current to flow in the circuit which triggers an alarm or other action. These alarms typically use visible red laser beams for both day and night operations. The main advantage over ultrasonic detectors is their ability to detect motion up to 16 feet away without being triggered by pets or household members moving around within this area. This also makes them more reliable than passive infrared devices when detecting intruders as they can't be fooled into triggering false alarms like these ones can (e.g., from cooking heat).

Residential Burglar Alarms are the most commonly used alarms as they protect houses from burglaries. They can be either wired or wireless and in-built into a security system.
