The global automotive chassis market is expected to reach USD 44.6 billion by 2028. The market is projected to grow at an annual rate of 2.1% during the forecast period, and this growth is attributed primarily to the increasing demand for light vehicles in emerging markets such as India and China.

An automotive chassis consists of the frame, axles, and suspension system. It provides a rigid structure to which other components can be attached that will provide transportation for humans or cargo. The most common materials are steel (for cost reasons) but aluminum, titanium, magnesium, or carbon fiber may also be used in some cases as they can offer advantages with regards to weight/strength trade-offs.

On the basis of type, the global automotive chassis market is segmented into corner modules, front axles, active kinematics control, and rear axle.

Corner Modules

Corner modules are the parts of a vehicle frame that connect to the front and rear suspension. The key benefits offered by these components include improved handling, better ride quality, lower weight, increased rigidity, and reduced noise levels. Corner modules provide structural support for both axles and help control how they transition from side-to-side movements on different surfaces such as gravel or snow. Corner modules can also be used in construction machinery.

Front Axles

Front axles are the primary front-wheel-drive component of an automotive chassis. They consist primarily of a suspension system and control arms which allow the wheels to move up and down, as well as left and right for steering. The axle is suspended on bearings in either ball joints or kingpins that connect it to other parts like wheel hubs, hub carriers, spindles, or differential housings.

Front axels are the point of connection between a vehicle and its driven wheels. They usually consist of an axle, two or more wheel hubs (or rotors) through which the drive shafts protrude as seen on most front-drive models such as Honda Accord and Ford Fiesta.

Active Kinematics Control

The active kinematics control (AKC) chassis system is a revolutionary new suspension architecture that has the potential to revolutionize the automotive industry. An AKC chassis can significantly improve vehicle performance and safety for both passengers as well as pedestrians, cyclists, and other vehicles on today’s roads by utilizing an active steering mechanism in place of conventional passive systems such as anti-roll bars or springs.

Rear Axle

The rear axle is a rotating hub that rotates with the wheels and transmits power to them. The suspension hangs off this, so it has an important bearing on how the car handles in corners. A good example of where you can see this being put into practice is Porsche's 911 GT cars which use the all-wheel-drive at the front but still have rear-wheel steer for maximum agility while cornering.

There are four main types: live axles (where one end stays fixed), semi-trailing arms (which swing through a very small arc), fully independent or twin trailing arms (both ends move through large arcs).

On basis of application, the global automotive chassis market is segmented into OEMs, aftermarket.

OEMs

OEMs use automotive chassis to assemble the car. They are used in cars, vans, and trucks. The chassis is what holds all of a vehicle's mechanical parts like the steering system, suspension system, or engine mounts together as one piece so that they can function smoothly while driving the car on the road.

Aftermarket

The aftermarket is a trade of goods or services that are not new and usually refers to the sale, maintenance, and installation. The automotive chassis market in the aftermarket includes used OEMs for spare parts. Used aftermarket automotive chassis are recycled for use in the OEM.

On the basis of region, the global automotive chassis market is segmented into North America, Latin America, Europe, Asia Pacific, and Middle East & Africa. North American region dominates in terms of volume and revenue owing to higher average vehicle production than other regions. In addition to this, there are various types of vehicles being made here that require a wide range of chassis configurations including SUVs (sports utility vehicles), pickup trucks as well as full-size sedans.

North America, Latin America, Europe, and the Asia Pacific are the leading regions in terms of market share. These regions have a huge number of OEMs that manufacture an extensive range of automotive chassis for various vehicles including jeeps (jeep brand), SUVs (Subaru brand) as well as pickup trucks. Furthermore, these markets are forecast to register considerable growth due to increased vehicle production by OEMs which will positively impact their revenue generation; while the Middle East & Africa is anticipated to witness significant expansion on account of increasing purchase power parity among consumers coupled with a projected rise in automobile demand owing to rapid industrialization and urbanization in developing economies such as Egypt.

Growth Factors

The growth factors of the global automotive chassis market are increased competition among OEMs, technological innovations in vehicle safety and performance, stringent regulation on environmental pollution from vehicles. For instance, the European Union has introduced a CO emission limit for new cars to be 95g/km by 2021 whereas India is planning to implement Euro IV technologies by 2020.

The global automotive chassis market is growing at a significant rate owing to the rise in demand for trucks and sport utility vehicles. Apart from this, with the growing popularity of electric and hybrid cars, there will be a higher preference towards lightweight chassis design which leads to more production of these parts by OEMs as well as aftermarket manufacturers. This major factor ensures that sales are increasing year on year.
