C12APG is a kind of alkyl polyglucoside. It has carbon number 12 in the molecule. It is widely used in detergents, cosmetics, and liquid soap. It has excellent cleansing, foaming, and wetting properties with superior compatibility with other surfactants. short-chain length of C12APG allows easy penetration into the surface, better cleaning performance, and faster drying. C12APG is produced by the process of hydrolysis and alkoxylation of Glucoside. The basic raw materials for producing glucoside are sugar or starch, which can be derived from corn, cassava, etc.

 

 

C14APG:

C14APG is a term for the type of alkyl polyglycoside. It can be formed by condensation reactions between fatty alcohols and unmodified glucose in an alkaline medium, which forms ethylene oxide chains that reduce water’s surface tension. The addition of APG to household cleaning products makes them more efficient and cost-effective than traditional cleaners such as soaps and detergents. It has 14 glucose units. It can be used as a wetting agent, emulsifier, and dispersant in industrial cleaning agents along with pesticide synergist agents.

APG can be further classified into C12-16 Alkyl polyglycosides which are preferred over the other types of alkyl glycosides due to their hydrophobic nature that helps in suspending dirt particles thereby offering better cleaning abilities without diminishing the soil removal capacity.
